How to change PHP version for a domain on cPanel

cPanel supports multiple versions of PHP. This article explains how to change the PHP version in cPanel and use the CloudLinux PHP selector for advanced PHP configurations.

cPanel maintains its own PHP versions, which start with ea-phpXX (e.g., ea-php83). If PHP is set to inherit, it will use the default PHP version used by cPanel. Consequently, the PHP version will change automatically when the default cPanel version is updated. To prevent this, choose the fixed PHP version you prefer.

1. Log into cPanel
2. Under Software click MultiPHP Manager
3. Make a note of your current version!
4. Select an updated version of PHP and click Apply
5. Visit your site to confirm that the change has not broken your site.
6. If the site is broken, you can switch back to the previous PHP version

CloudLinux maintains its own PHP versions for security patches, even for outdated PHP versions. These versions start with alt-phpXX (e.g., alt-php83).

Steps to Use Alt PHP Versions by CloudLinux:

1. Log into cPanel
2. Under Software click MultiPHP Manager
3. Select inherit version of PHP and click Apply
4. Under Software click Select PHP Version
5. Select an updated version of PHP and click Apply
6. Visit your site to confirm that the change has not broken your site.
7. If the site is broken, you can switch back to the previous PHP version
