Microsoft Edge Clear Cache and Force Refresh a Page
Built on the same foundation as Chrome, Microsoft Edge is fast and modern. However, it can also suffer from cache-related issues. If a website isn't loading correctly in Edge, clearing the cache is the first step. Here’s how to do it on desktop and mobile, followed by how to hard reload.
How to Clear Cache in Edge on Desktop (Windows, macOS)
- Open Microsoft Edge and click the three-dot menu icon (...) in the top-right corner.
- Select History (the clock icon).
- In the History panel that opens, click the three-dot menu icon (...) and choose Clear browsing data.
- In the settings tab that appears, set the Time range to All time.
- Check the box for Cached images and files. You can uncheck other items like "Cookies" or "Browsing history."
- Click the Clear now button.
Pro-Tip: The shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + Delete (macOS) will open the "Clear browsing data" settings directly.
How to Perform a Hard Reload in Edge on Desktop
With the cache cleared, go to the problematic webpage and force it to download all new content:
- On Windows: Press Ctrl + F5 or hold Ctrl and click the reload button.
- On macOS: Press Cmd + Shift + R.
How to Clear Cache in Edge on Mobile (iOS & Android)
- Open the Edge app.
- Tap the three-dot menu icon (...) at the bottom center of the screen.
- Tap Settings, then go to Privacy and security.
- Select Clear browsing data.
- Make sure Cached images and files is checked and set the Time range to All time.
- Tap Clear now to confirm.
